On September 15th-17th the PIBF Annual Conference 2008, including the Board
of Directors meeting, the General Assembly meeting and a seminar under the theme
“Innovations in Public Private Partnership”, was successfully concluded. The
conference held in Stockholm Sweden attracted more than one hundred
participants, mainly from the private sector in Sweden, Palestine and Israel.
The foundation of the PIBF is the idea of partnership and cooperation between
Sweden, Palestine and Israel as a way to enable private sector efforts towards
sustainable economic growth in Palestine.
This year the conference theme was “Innovations in Public Private
Partnership” and the conference presented new ideas of the linkage between
trade, investments and innovations as catalyst for sustained growth and
stability and the potential in Palestine for extended public private
partnerships.
In connection to the conference the PIBF General Assembly held its annual
meeting. Below is a short briefing of some of the most important decisions taken
by the General Assembly on September 15th.
- The General Assembly unanimously adopted a joint Declaration of
Principles. This declaration will give the PIBF a strong political base on
which the tree partners can further develop and strengthen their
cooperation.
- The General Assembly had the pleasure of welcoming seventeen companies
from Israel, Palestine and Sweden as new members.
- The General Assembly elected Mr. Samir Hulileh to be the new PIBF
Chairperson and he will thus succeed Mr. Zahi Khouri. Mr. Erik Belfrage and
Mr. Amiram Shore were re-elected as Deputy Chairpersons.
- The General Assembly elected a new Board of Directors, comprised of Mr.
Samir Hulileh, Mr. Erik Belfrage and Mr. Amiram Shore as mentioned above.
Other members of the Board of Directors are Mr. Iyad Joudeh, Mr. Ahed Bseiso,
Mr. Elias Al-Arja, Mr. Azzam Al-Shawwa, Mr. Oren Shachor, Mr. Amos Rabin,
Mr. Shraga Brosh, Mrs. Ulla Holm, Mr. Andreas von der Heide and Mr. Ibrahim
Gnem.
- The General Assembly accepted Mr. Andreas von der Heide resignation as
Secretary General of the PIBF. He will continue his engagement in the PIBF
in his capacity as CEO of the International Council of Swedish Industry (NIR)
and as Member of the PIBF Board of Directors.
- The General Assembly elected former Ambassador to the Swedish Ministry
for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Björn Sternby, to be acting Secretary General..
